In January of 2006 Rev. Daniel Preus met with three church leaders from Indonesia. These pastors were interested in seeing theological conferences take place in Indonesia, and they invited Rev. Preus to begin Luther Academy work there. They want the Luther Academy to serve a role in teaching their pastors Lutheran doctrine. About five million people in Indonesia belong to church bodies that are Lutheran and/or open to Lutheran teaching. This is a tremendous opportunity to promote our Lutheran theology and to help people in Indonesia to gain an appreciation for our Lutheran Confessions. Rev. Preus visited Indonesia in November 2006 to discuss possible Luther Academy work there. After very congenial discussions and careful planning, the first Luther Academy conference in Indonesia took place in November of 2009 in Samosir, North Sumatra. The next conference is planned for 2011.
